Sadly all good things come to an end and I can no longer recommend Serverbeach. I strongly suggest you consider another host. SInce the take over by Peer 1 the service has declined.
Specifically:
- Down time a minimum of three times in the last three months ( November 2009 to January 2010 ). I don’t use a monitoring service so I may have missed more.
- An “upgraded” control panel that when launched was missing functionality.
- A broken billing system ( at time of launch )
- the worst: failure to communicate effectively with customers.
- Still haven’t reimbursed me for down time. Asked a few times via tickets and their forum and have been blown off with “we’ll get back to you” comments with no follow up.
I currently have no recommendation for a host but when I do I’ll post it.
EVERY THING AFTER THIS WAS ABOUT THE SERVERBEACH BEFORE PEER 1 AND NO LONGER APPLIES…

I have been using Serverbeach for three yearsand I am very satisfied. Initially I used them because they had better servers than EV1 and EV1 forums were rife with complaints. Since then I have stayed with them because of the consistently good service. I can recommend them in good faith, if your looking for a full server you should use them.

Features of Serverbeach
Excellent support forums – These are a must for any self managed hosting company. The support forums are attended to by their technicians (search for QT) to ensure that they are aware of issues. The forums are full of expert instructions, tutorials, and advice on administering servers from the other customers of Serverbeach.
Easy to use control panel – The control panel is very easy to use and straight forward. Most services are with in one click of the control panel. The DNS management was very straightforward and flexible, you can use their DNS servers, have them slave off of your server, or use your own DNS servers.
Above Average Servers – Serverbeach from the very beginning differentiated itself by offering only quality servers. Since the time they have opened they have continued to add better servers. They also have rounded out their lower end choices that are great for testing and development.
Secure backups – Serverbeach has an affordable and local backup solution via ftp on their local network. This makes the backup of your servers vital information very easy.
Emergency Shell Access – If you screw up your server your going to want access to it asap and not want to wait on a technician. With their “Rapid Rescue” program you can get access to your server immediately with out help from a technician and regardless of the state of the operating system.
Things I look for in a web host.
Reliability – In the three years I have been with Serverbeach I have been satisfied with the reliability. I have experienced two outages at my datacenter. The first lasted less then 6 hours the second only lasted about a half an hour. Both times the company was forthcoming with the details and issued refunds. Twice in three years is ok in my book. The servers have always been better than other self service hosts and I have never had any server failures.
Prompt Service – Response to a ticket is average compared to other hosts but they are very prompt when you start asking around in the forums. Once your ticket is answered the techs are very thorough, polite , and patient.
Few legitimate complaints - I always search Google for complaints for a host before I open an account. For Serverbeach I found there were no legitimate complaints (all the complaints were from people who didn’t know how to admin a server) beyond the two outages I have already noted.
I recommend you use Serverbeach if you need a server. If you click this link you can save $100 on your sigup with them.

Thanks for the un-solicited endorsement, Scott. We’re glad you’ve been such a loyal customer. If you’re ever in the San Antonio area, come by the office for a tour and a chance to meet the support team.
Cheers!

[...] Need an easy to use Dedicated Server? – The review of the hosting the best hosting company I have used will help. I have been with them [...]
I’ve been with server beach many years, even before they were sold to peer1, but I never had more than 2 dedicated servers with them, because I did not have enough confidence in them after I figured out that they solution to fixing any problems is: “clean wipe your machine and reinstall”. If your data and time is not important, then that might be okay with you. They will usually always choose the “time” option, and wipe your server, rather than the “fix” option. All my other 18 dedicated servers are elsewhere. I have a secondary DNS server hosted with them that I provide free DNS services for almost 10 years.
One day, I couldn’t log into my secondary DNS server. I later found out that they sent me an AUP email message because a spammer was using my DNS. I received the same message from another provider I host with regarding this same issue, and I removed the spammer immediately.
Now, fast forward one month, I login to do maintenance on my secondary DNS, and find that I can not connect. I later found out that because I did not reply to 1 email sent to me by severbeach a month ago, they “reclaimed” my server. That is a nice way of saying, they wiped off all the data without contacting me, and closed my account. That is a good way of telling a good long time customer that you really do not care about their DATA or TIME.
So if you want to deal with a company, that ACTS rashly, and asks questions later, without regard for your expense.
Try http://Superb.net instead. They haven’t upset me yet in over 9 years, and have usually tried to fix my problems first instead of just wiping out my machine and reinstall as an easy solution.
Serverbeach does not care about your DATA or TIME, and will wipe out your entire server without contacting you, even if you’ve been a long time customer.
