The simplest advice that was written back then is whats proven timeless.

Some of my problems with it:

• It took several tries for me to even be able to add one account.
• Once the account was added it only downloaded account balances. I waited almost  a week to see if the problem would correct itself but it never did.
• “Help” wasn’t helpful at all being just a self service sort of search engine. The help system consists of you searching for  problems similar to yours already entered in the system and hoping someone a had solved it already.  Everyone else that had the same problem as me was told to wait and they’ll fix it soon. The problem had been identified several months earlier by other users.
• You can’t upload any previous account history.

meh.. I’ll look at it again in a  few months.

Being a dedicated Firefox user, one of the few things that was still thwarting me was SharePoint.  We use SharePoint internally for a ton of stuff, and it was a drag to have to fall back to that other browser.  SharePoint pages look and work fine in Firefox, but I was having to reauthenticate on every single page, which really hindered my enjoyment of the experience.

I finally figured out how to get Firefox to do NTLM, which means I don’t have to deal with the authentication dialogs, thereby reducing my dependence on IE to one and only one application (Oddpost).

It’s not at all obvious how to make it work, and it took me a few tries.  You have to go to your Firefox address bar and type about:config. This will bring up the internal config editor, which allows you to set all kinds of properties that influence Firefox’s behavior.  Look for the key called network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris.  Set that key’s value to a comma separated list of servers you want NTLM auth for.  So if your internal SharePoint sites are on servers called Larry and Mo, use “larry,mo”.  You can also add the same value to the key network.negotiate-auth.trusted-uris. It’s unclear to me if that second one is required, but I set it, and everything works.  Now SharePoint works like a champ, and authenticates automatically.

Specifically:

• Down time a minimum of three times in the last three months ( November 2009 to January 2010 ). I don’t use a monitoring service so I may have missed more.
• An “upgraded” control panel that when launched was missing functionality.
• A broken billing system ( at time of launch )
• the worst: failure to communicate effectively with customers.
• Still haven’t reimbursed me for down time. Asked a few times via tickets and their forum and have been blown off with “we’ll get back to you” comments with no follow up.

I currently have no recommendation for a host but when I do I’ll post it.

At what point did someone on the dev team there say “Hey lets ignore the most basic tenant of the web by making things inaccessible!“.  Then someone else chimed in “You know… lets also filter out the browsers that don’t meet our standard“.  Super idea!
