Look no further let me give you my top seven recommendations. All of my top recommendations are indexed and poorly policed thus allowing you the maximum amount of time to promote your page.

Bebo.com – Member section
- This place is great for setting up profiles and linking back to the site you need a link to. Seems to stay fairly well indexed and not policed well.
Propellor.com
- Member section Another place were anyone can seemingly set up a profile and link willy nilly all over the web.
Imeem.com
- More member pages being used to spam offers and links to other parasitic pages.
Boards.WebMD.com
- Member Profiles again being used to promote offers. This one is seems especially good to promote pharmaceutical spam since the WebMD name is known and well trusted in the general public.

- My last but most important pick for places to host parasitic pages….. Google Notebooks! Even if google analyzes and bans the spam from the index the simple fact that its on a google domain is important. You can leverage the trust that the google name brings to promote any offer you can imagine.

The fake local market on Craigslist

Its easy to aggregate all the different Craigslist markets and search them.Â Craigslist doesn’t allow meta search though under the idea that they are only trying to promote local markets. They have even actively tried to combat meta search tools that provide that capability. Why is that? What is lost by providing that seperate feature? Why would you fight your most “fanatic” users by not providing a feature so many want?

Only Craig knows the answer to those questions. He is only restricting his regular users capabilities to out spam by disallowing a public meta tool. All the power users already have meta search tools, autoposters, and auto responders. Its as if they have their head in the sand.

China the next economic superpower? Its not going to happen and if you are wasting your time trying tap into that market you need to stop now. They have no oil, can’t feed themselves, and they are horrifically poor. In fact poverty is the only thing they have going for them making for a cheap labor pool but cheap labor alone does not a great country make. Furthermore the Chinese are among the most xenophobic people on earth.. they won’t let a foreigner get to far in their economy. Don’t buy into the hype surrounding the largest third world nation.

Websites for a Recession

Economic cycles affect the business online especially extreme ones like recessions. With a few well respected contrarian economists are saying that the United States is in a recession (opens in PDF) already we need to be thinking how this may affect us. I expect a decrease in online ad spending as consumers spending decreases.

What sort of sites are recession proof? To answer that one must think about what happens during a recession and why. Consumers buy less durable goods because they don’t have extra money to spend to replace their older goods. This means that more interest in “how to” sites. Also consumers cash strapped will be increasingly look for ways to save money meaning that coupon sites and deal sites should get an added boost. Loans and mortgages also come to mind because the increase in unemployment should cause people ( with ther credit left) to cash in their remaining credit need to maintain their spending. Lastly employment and financial freedom type sites should do well.

The real trick will be to stand out against the established players in theses areas but that is always problem. Is your stable of sites recession proof?

$100 a day

The PPC doctor is in and the diagnosis is good. I am a little over a $100 a day via PPC and its increasing everyday. By the end of next month, barring any suprises, I am positive I’ll be at some ridiculous amount per day. Up until now most of my monetization was via consulting.. let me tell you this is a lot more fun. Thats not to say that there haven’t been a few bumps.

Notes from the road..

Yahoo Panama, not so bad but it could be better. With no ability to add large amounts of keywords I was forced to rethink my strategy with this. So far I am just taking proven winners and running with them on this network. Seems to be working well enough.
MSN Adcenter… awesome little gem thats great for testing. I make a money off of this but not much, the testing ability is what makes it super awesome. Since they are pretty liberal with the number of keywords you can add and the prices are low you can test a crap ton of words
Adwords.. still baffled.. at the time of this writing 99.8% of my keywords are deactived for search. Over time it only got worse. I am thinking that I need to customize ads for groups of keywords based on a root word they all contain. I’ll likely be getting to that later.
You need a lot of data to make it work initially… I don’t think I could have done this without my own kickass keyword database. Paying someone else for that data would have been prohibitive.
Adsense makes a great way to monetize if the user doesn’t want to convert on your main offer
Landing pages.. the simpler the better.
Conversion effeciency is important to monitor but if you don’t have cutting edge analytics thats ok as long as you have some sort rudimentary automated analytics going on. Whats important is that your making money consistently you can go back and tweek later

Harvard Business Review on Managing Yourself

I received a copy of the Harvard Business Review on Managing Yourself for Christmas and have to say it was one of the best books I have read in awhile. The “Harvard Business Review” is a series of books covering topics for entrepreneurs and business managers via a series of short, useful, and informative essays. Written mostly by academics and people “in the field” I always get great ideas from them.

The essay about burnout ( cleverly called Attention Deficit Trait in the book ) and how to prevent it really hit home for me in this series. Burnout is a problem that really screwed me up in 2006 and caused me to burn some bridges with some great people. Having a way to help prevent recognize and prevent that from happening again will likely save me lots of heartache and money.

Also in the book.. an essay by Peter Drucker about life management, an overview of how to make sure your work goals match your personal goals, how to identify your strengths to be more efficient. All and all pretty useful and authoritative. I recommend it .
