What would you teach a small business owner about SEM?

What would you teach a small business owner about SEM? I noticed my gym wasn’t putting any work into an online effort so I pointed it out to them. I made a few suggestions each week eventually they were curious and asked me to tell them more. I am putting together my brief now and became curious about what you think. What would you cover?
