I love Dog the Bounty Hunter

I love Dog the Bounty Hunter. A show about hopelessly flawed redneck enforcing the law is sheer genius. He’s like a car crash you just can’t look away after you start watching. The Dog’s show is chockful of lessons for online marketers if they simply take the time to observe them. Haven’t you ever wondered someone who was arrested 18 eye popping times for armed robbery and went to prison for murder could be so loved by America?

I have thought about the Dogs success a lot. You see I hate the guy and it chaps my ass that such a piece of crap could be successful. Luckily my time spent hating Duane has given me some insights that I can use online.

  1. Duane Chapman is a great Horatio Alger story. If an ex felon with nothing makes something of himself if he can do it anyone can. People love that shit it gives them hope. Several bloggers have stories like that and they are huge now.
  2. The incongruity of a con chasing down other criminals makes for an interesting story of redemption. People like to see others get a second chance and make something of it. Do you have a personal story of redemption that you can integrate into your writing or videos?
  3. Village PeopleIf the Biker and the Indian from the village people ever got together and miraculously had a baby its name would be Duane Chapman. He wears outrageous Indian garb mixed with a suit of leather armor making him a spectacle to behold. Taking Dog over the top are his signature one liners that are referred to as “Dogisms” by his fans. He doesn’t do it to make better TV for you it just the way Duane Chapman is which is why his audience loves him. People love flamboyant over the top persona’s delivered with conviction. If you can’t do that on your blog don’t try you’ll look like a faker but its something to think about.
  4. I can predict what you’ll hear if you asked the Dog who is responsible for his success. First he would blather about his wife, then his sons, of course God would get thrown in there, and finally something about how he worked hard. Did you notice what he puts last? Thats right himself and that shows humility. Humility is a great vehicle to peoples hearts. It lets your readers know your just a regular guy who succeeded with the help of others and hard work.

I may hate the Duane’s public persona but I have learned from him. All of us can implement a little of the Dog’s marketing into our business and writing.

PS. Its not hard to find examples of people who already used these story telling techniques online. I’ll name two that pop to my mind immediately. Shoemoney was a humongous, in debt, gamer who couldn’t hold a job who turned his life around. He worked hard, married a doctor, lost weight and in the process and made millions. If thats not a Horatio Alger story I don’t know what is. What about Jon from Wickedfire? He’s a complete cock to people he doesn’t like, brags about everything he does, and writes about himself as if he were the second coming of Christ. It works because it comes across as an honest representation of who he is. Honesty and huge persona’s go hand in hand.. you can’t fake that shit.

At least the guy turned his life around and he is doing one of the things he does best. Jealous are you? Just goes to show that those who screw up in life can get back on the right track. For those that want to whine about it, SUCK IT UP PRINCESS AND PULL UP YOUR BIG BOY PANTS AND GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
