Looking for type in domain names ?

I have been amazed at the amount of type traffic I get on some of my domains I recently bought. So much so that I created a tool to help me find better domains.

Here is the link for you to try it.

Domain Hunter

Type in the keywords your interested in, it will query Overture then try common several combinations of keywords returned to see if a domain is available. The only keywords/domains listed are those that are free and end in “.com”.

Its not a big deal just a little hack I did last night. It also links the keywords to snap.com so you can see how the data compares to theirs. ( they get their data from outside sources and its signifigently different than Overture, be sure to compare some terms you are familiar with on there so you can get a feel for what the scores mean )

I’ll be releasing the source after I get some feed back.

WOW, this is a really great tool. I cannot believe the results! Its like a dropped domain search with more options. Great job!

Cannot wait for the source release.

A little request. Add an option to only display available domains and an option to disable showing of Hyphenated domains. That should speed things up. Hope that gave some ideas :)

I have also noticed that after x amount of results (x is random) there seems to be integers appended to the results. For example:

my keywords= this is key word
results=
keyword.com
thisiskeyword.com
2353.com
keywordthisis.com

I hope you realize how big this tool is going to be. :)

thanks for the comments.

I addressed the option to display only domain names that were open by adding a textarea at the bottom that lists all the free names.

Not displaying occupied domains wouldn’t speed it up since the majority of the delay is from checking to see if they are registered. I like to have the already registered domains listed to add some context to the keywords, I find that heelps me come up with more ideas.

Excellent tool, I was exploring it yesterday and its quite interesting.

The only thing is that today, upon returning to actually put it to use, the page seems to be malfunctioning in that there are no results coming back anymore. The delayed page load is still there as though it were searching actual data, but the results page only has listings for “.com” — literally, that’s all that comes back.

This behavior is consistent on Firefox and Safari. Could there be an issue with the load this tool is generating on the web services you’re plugging into?

Could be one of those “just a bit too useful and addictive” sites whose addictiveness ends up backfiring via bandwidth usage or disabled web service keys.

Thanks for the feedback !

Its overture that flaky from time to time I should detect and provide error messages. In fact I’ll get right on that !

:)
