TechCrunch wrote a piece entitleled “Top Ten Things You Can Do To Get Blogged” about how to get bloggers to write about you. Most of the advice is, in typical blogger fashion, lame, obvious, and condescending. I am starting to think most blogs are set up by people who applied to DMOZ and got denied. Having a blog affords them the opportunity to act as if their site is the most important on the web.
Lets go down the list of ones that are stupid.
- Build a kick ass company
Right well, great advice. I’d never have done that with out your suggestion
- Approach Bloggers Directly
If you have to ask for a review, your marketing is all wrong.
- Be Persistent
He goes on to tell people to send multiple emails requesting reviews. In todays spam worried world that is patently the worst advice ever. Sounds like a good way to get reported to NANAE
- Be humble
- Be confident
- Don’t be a jerk
As to the last three, What is this a social club ? If you have to tell people, presumably adults, how to behave they are already a lost cause. So the be humble and confident bit is just plain dumb. Further more don’t be a jerk misses the point to. Perhaps if they are a jerk you are more likely to write about them and send them some link hate.
Anyways.. way to be mediocre.. great job…
