Another Day, Another post deleted on WebmasterWorld

Add

Warning: If you are from Webmasterworld or otherwise morally retarded I use swear words in this post. Its a rant, as you can tell because its categorized under… rants.

Ever wonder why Webmaster World has the personality of stale bread ?

Anytime you post something remotely sarcastic people don’t get it and the mods delete it. On Webmasterworld you have to be literal, all the time. Further more you may not post semi sarcastic remarks or attempt any humor at all. Those will be deleted as well.

Also you may not discuss Danny Sullivan, Threadwatch, or any other source of discussion because 50% of the time those will be snipped. We mustn’t let the newby’s know that there are other forums.

To succeed at WebmasterWorld you need to post things like “5 steps to feed your cat” or “OMFG Adsense Stats are delayed” or “Content is King” and my ever fucking favorite “For the newbs 5,000,000 dollars a day is possible”

You may not post things like “What Porn Webmasters Do Differently than us for SEO” or “How well does the adult industry convert” because apparently even acknowledging that there is a porn industry is wrong, let alone discuss their tactics.

Now don’t get me wrong, WebmasterWorld is still a great place, I will still go there and I still recommend it. There are tons of great information and helpful people there and were it not for that site I wouldn’t be on my way to financial freedom.

But for the love of all that is holy…

LET US HAVE FUCKING GROWN UP DISCUSSIONS

Agree with you all the way.

The rub seems to be from the point of view of “more experienced” webmasters that we have outgrown WMW (well, by and large). But WMW has nevertheless managed to buck the “bell shaped curve” and is on an upward growth curve again.

To that extent it makes money - the aim of all of us - and I guess BT does not mind roughing the feathers of a few with deletes, the net virgins flock to WMW, and are very profitable.

Totally agreed about the ridiculous policy on comments. I also think they are going too far about posting links to relevant sources.

Scott,

Entirely agree with you on the thread deletion. That was in fact the reason started my forums. It is disheartening to put hours into a debate or discussion, only to have it deleted.

I read there still on occasion, but the word “outgrow” does seem to apply. In fact, I’d offer that many webmasters outgrown not just WMW, but forums in general. There’s only so many “what is Page Rank?” discussions we can take.

The only reason I still participate in forums is because of the sense of community, and even that is pretty thin in most places.

And on the porn industry thing - it’s an issue which creates many, many flames. Sometimes it’s just easier to avoid it altogether.

Cheers
