Hot Naked Links & other assorted SEO Porn

Filed under: General, Marketing — Scott @ 10:33 am

I have found several good resources for ideas on how to build links. Here they are:

  1. Aaron Walls SEO Book, The best single document I have read on SEO and SEM ever. I wish I had known about it a year and a half ago as it would have saved me well… a year and a half of learning. It covered all the on page stuff and the link building section was spectacular. If your new to this whole thing please get it and read it. It distills years of reading forums into just the good stuff on a little over a hundred pages.
  2. Link Building 101 by Nacho is a thread that provides a great overview of resources on how to build links.
  3. Link Building Library at webmasterworld has a great amount of useful threads in it. If you use WMW at all please read the libraries. All the best stuff is in there.

One of my sites blew up in the January time frame in terms of traffic. I optimized the onpage factors to the extreme even going to far as to offer a text only version of my site to bots and cell phone users. The justification for cloaking, if I have a legitimate reason to cloak by user agent I won’t get banned works for NPR why not me ? .

After puzzling over the lack of increase of traffic I looked at my competitors to see what was different. What did I find ? Lots of backlinks. Despite these sites lack of onpage optimization and poor spiderability [ is that a word? ] they had 2 to 5 times the amount of search engine traffic I did [ silly buggers left their logs in the open ].
