I was on another free directory service and ran across this quote on how to become a dmoz editor:
Assuming you just want to get in, pick a real boring - lame topic that no one wants to edit. In this example, we’ll use the “Cat Lovers” topic. I don’t know if it exists, but it’ll be great for this example. When you apply, you’re now a single grey haired lady that houses 45 stray cats in the backwoods of Alabama in the house your father built with his own hands, next to the tree you got your first kiss. Don’t forget to go on and on about cats. Just like a grandma would do. This sounds funny, but sadly enough, it works.
Sad and that was from back in 2002, posted in a private area not for anyones benifit.

The post was just an observation on how ridiculous dmoz was even a few years ago.
That’s how I got in. I collected my first 1000 shoelaces back in 2000 and my category (And collection) have grown ever since.
