Spotted this entry about Craigslist on the SEW blog.
It points out two articles where Craig Newman of Craigslist talks about his site and how and why it works.
Mr Newman goes on to explain that his focus is on customer service. He uses consults the community before he changes things and provides the most he can for free. When he means free he means he does not charge or pitch extras and feels that is the down fall of Ebay.
Alot of this is my summarization of the articles. You should read them your self and draw your own conclusions. It is an important example of how free doesn’t neccesarily mean unprofitable.
