What is SEO?
The term SEO was introduced by the Google around 1999-2000. The reason people use SEO is to rank their websites for search terms people use frequently to find websites, information, businesses etc… These search terms can be found in these ways…
1). Google External Keyword Tool (can be found easily in google)
2). Competition Research (use view source/page source of your competitors websites and analyze their)
Now seriously I don’t want to waste your time by telling you what is keyword research and how to do it, just find it on youtube or Google and you will see loads of videos and articles showing up.
Just remember my little formula in keyword selection “More the Competition = More the Work Required x More the Time Required”
There is no such term you have heared before, but I am using this to make this step simple… A question that arises in one’s mind that how the hell people rank for their keywords? The answer is very simple BackLinks. But another question of very much importance is “What are Backlinks & How they are made?”
Well to demonstrate this we will use this scenario.
But before we move on , here is important little information about PageRank:PageRank is a term used by Google to define the authority of a website. It tells you that how much a site is important to Google and its having unique content on its pages and Google values that website with page rank due to its relevant information
Ok. So Now Move On…
Your website is a President and other existing websites are general public who are going to vote for the president. PageRank is the important vote or you can say 1 PageRank Vote is similar to 3 Non-Page Rank Votes.
So to Win your SEO Election in Google you have to gain maximum votes. The higher their PageRank is the more value they will have in Google eyes. However there are different methods with which you can build backlinks which I am going to discuss one by one.
Link Building & How to do it?
Link Directories and Article Directories are a great way to build links. But to make this process easy around 80% of people rely on Link Directories. Submitting to high pr link directories can help you boost your rank in few weeks. You can find many high pr link directories on vmoptions.com, directory crtic is also a good resource and its really worth checking.
Here’s how to enter text into directories….
Title: Your Keyword
URL: Your Website/Page URL
Description: Copy your website here….
Meta Keyword: Your Keyword
Meta Description: Copy your website here….
Category: Choose a Category for your submission that descibes your site best.. In my example I choose blogs>webmaster or Computers&Internet>SEO
Your Name: Enter Your Name Here
Your Email: Enter Your Email Here (Few directories require you to confirm link, so use your e-mail or make a new one for this purpose)
Note: Don’t submit to directories forcing you to place a “Reciprocal Link”, you will not get any value for that kind of link and waste your time. Only submit to directories allowing “Regular Link” and Free is always great.
Tip: To Automate this step of filling long forms and avoiding manual enteries you can use an auto form filler of your choice. I recommend RoboForm as its widely extendable and easy to use.
Don’t use automated directory submission softwares or services at all… They will flood directories marking you spam and this will result in a ban from Google. Be nice and do this manually or Semi-Automated where you can control the text.
Its always good to use 2 or 3 descriptions for each keyword which you should rotate after every 5 to 6 submissions.
Blog Commenting – The Fun Method
Blog comments is another way of getting backlinks to your website. I love doing this because its a great way of getting new information to read other people blogs and its fun writing a comment for their blogs.
Most people think how blog commenting can build links?
Remember the sections of the comment box on any blog?
Name: Enter your keyword here
E-mail: Enter your real e-mail or the one you have made for link building purpose.
URL: Enter your website URL
Comment: Enter a nice comment which the blog owner as well as readers will love to see…
Now on comment your link will appear behind your keyword which will take a user to your website when he click on your keyword. So that’s a backlink simply.
Tip: Remember not to spam in comments, I would recommend even to not use links to your website in comments becaue this will lead a negative impact on blog owners. Write a meaningful comment after going through the post and if possible read few comments before you post yours.
Don’t use mass commenting softwares or other such tools, they will get you in trouble resulting in Google ban. Do it manually as many as you can. I don’t mind if its 1 per day or even 3 per week, because link building is a slow and steady process. If you want to build 500 backlinks a day, I would recommend to don’t build links at all because it is of no use and no worth at all.
Social Bookmarking – The Right Path
Social Bookmarking is the fastest way to build backlinks these days. With Social Bookmarking you will get Traffic plus Backlinks. Sites like digg, stumbleupon, delicious are a great way to build high quality backlinks and traffic in one go.
I am sure you are looking for how to do it?
Its just simple,
Url: Your Website/Page URL
Title: Your Keyword
Tags: 1st Keyword, 2nd Keyword, 3rd Keyword
Thats it…. You can bookmark you links to 10-12 directories in 10 minutes easily… In start don’t worry about people not coming to your website from these websites and people not digging your links etc….
Tip: Use SocialMarker, Ping.fm & Add This to find high quality social media websites easily.
DoFollow & NoFollow Links Myth
Before we get into this I want to tell you what are InBound Links and what are OutBound Links?
InBound links are the links that are coming to your website, also known as incoming links or BackLinks. Out Bound Links are those links which are Going Out from your website, also known as BackLinks for other websites from your websites.
So what actually is DoFollow & NoFollow Link and how they effect your website?
I have came across this question more than 100 times in my entire career that “What is the difference between NoFollow & DoFollow Links?”. Actually DoFollow links are the links that follows or donates the PageRank Value to your website. I call it the PageRank Juice. NoFollow Links simply do the reverse and doesn’t pass the PageRank Juice.
This NoFollow & DoFollow game comes in play when you are offering links to place on your websites or when you are going to sell your websites. People usually don’t buy or advertise on websites that have many OutGoing/OutBound Links due to their less importance in Google.
Its always recommended to use a nofollow tag in your site for outgoing links to other websites to keep outbound links low.
Note: A backlink whether its NoFollow or DoFollow is important for you as it may not pass the PageRank (PR) Juice but it will cast a vote for your website and is really important for you.
Tip: Most of the links, I must say around 95% of the links these days you found on internet are NoFollow and the reason of that you already know.
Social Media Role
A common question raised by many new comers and pros is “Is Social Media really important for SEO”? Well the answer is obviously YES! Why? Because social media these days is a key of Success. Sites like YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter, MySpace etc are on peak these days and covering major areas of internet traffic. So using these sites can be hepful in SEO but to do them right is always great.
Well I am not focusing the social media stuff for now in this tutorial so won’t go in its detail… But I hope I will write soon for Social Media Marketing too in depth for every popular tool around.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is not a 1 day task or 1 week task at all so as the results for your completed work. Its a matter of fact that SEO requires a lot of patience at many stages. Some times backlinks don’t show up, some times search engine rankings don’t show up and some times your website is no where in Google at all. Yes. That really happens, but here is my little advice. Just don’t give up. Really, just keep working on your daily tasks you have defined for yourself for a week atleast. Then on sunday you can sit and check your search engine ranking positions and you will have an idea how much you are doing and how much you need to do to gain desired results.
Important: I skipped some of the lengthy steps in SEO like Article Writing and Forum Postings because this way it becomes hard for you and sometimes you need to spend alot of money for writing articles and people having your links in their signatures or doing yourself 50 posts for every forum to be allowed to place links in your signatures for every good forum.
